The high popularity of Rolex watches brings a lot of fun to watch lovers when chatting. The design, history, style, material, color and market of watches are all topics of interest to everyone. Some watch lovers even know the model numbers of the brand watches by heart. 126610, 116500 and 126710 are not mysterious codes for Rolex fans, but their ideal goals. However, these watch models have many numbers and sometimes there are some changes. Not everyone can remember (or is willing to remember). Therefore, some watch lovers will give the watches some memorable and relevant nicknames/nicknames based on the characteristics of the watches and the origins of their creation. For example, the Greater China region generally calls Submariner the “Water Ghost”, the GMT-Master II with a blue and red bezel is the “Pepsi Bezel”, the GMT-Master II with a brown and black bezel is the “Sass Bezel”, etc.
Compared to watch fans in Greater China, foreign watch fans have given Rolex watches a more diverse range of nicknames. Recently, the well-known Italian watch expert Bruno Bergamaschi shared on IG several nicknames for Rolex watches that he thinks are familiar and distinctive. Some of these watches are current models, while others are discontinued, and generally speaking, they are from the Submariner and GMT-Master II series. The following is a list of nicknames commonly used by these foreign watch fans according to different series.
★Daytona Series
6264 and other gold cases with black dial models → John Player Special (racing livery of the cigarette brand JPS, the sponsor of the F1 Lotus team in the 1970s).
★Explorer Series
Explorer II 226570 (white) → Polar
★GMT-Master II Series
16710 (out of print red and black bezel) → Coke
126710BLNR (three-plate strap with blue and black bezel) → Batman
126710BLNR (blue and black bezel five-bead belt) → Batgirl
126710BLRO (blue and red bezel) → Pepsi
126711CHNR (brown and black bezel) → Root Beer
126720VTNR (green and black circle with left crown) → Sprite
★Submariner Series
5513 (discontinued model) → Bart Simpson
116610LV (discontinued model) → Hulk
116619LB (discontinued model) → Puffo Smurf
126610LV→Starbucks
After reading, I found that the GMT-Master II series and the Submariner series are really the two models with the most nicknames under Rolex. Perhaps it is related to the fact that the bezel of the GMT-Master II series is often a two-color combination, which is easier to stimulate people’s associations than a single color. Among these nicknames, some are also used in Greater China, but some are more likely to be used by foreigners. I wonder among so many nicknames of Rolex watches, is there any one that impressed u particularly or that you like the most?
